Abstract Cities have their own microclimate, which is influenced by many factors. One of these is the albedo of the materials used in cities, as it determines the percentage of radiation reflected by them. The light that is not reflected is instead absorbed by the materials, which increases their temperature. Using hyperspectral measurements of various materials, under different angles, and at different times of the day, the bidirectional reflectance distribution function can be modelled. These models can be used to calculate the albedo of the material.
