Abstract	The present study begins with a concise description of the foundation and the development of Analytic Geometry. The introduction of Analytic Geometry as an object of education in Greece is then described, through the investigation of instructive handbooks. During the last four decades the students' first contact with this subject takes place in the Lykeion (upper high school). In an attempt to investigate the level of comprehension of this new subject, a research (action research) was undertaken with 11th grade students from two schools (Lykeion) in Greece. This constitutes the main objective of this study. It is shown that there exist problems related to the comprehension of concepts (straight line, conic sections), but also with the frame of their negotiation. The basic problems presented are in the connection of solutions of the equation of a line with the points of the line, as well as in the necessary transformations of representations of concepts that are effected in this complex framework. In a short intervention (45 minutes) it was attempted to correct these problems, separating the frames of representation of concepts (definition, equation, shape), giving the essential contacts between the frames of representation and educating the students in the transformations of concepts. The intervention improved, to some extent, the ability of the students to handle concepts in the frame of Analytic Geometry.
