Abstract In this paper we study the constitution of direct democracy as it emerged and was applied in the city-state of ancient Athens, as well as the cases of application of this mode of government and in other historical cases that extend to this day. From Spanish collectives at the time of the civil war there, until the Zapatistas and the Hamilton School in England. As regards ancient Athens, we examine the history and the causes of the phenomenon of democracy as a method of government of the city. The administrative bodies on which the city's administration was based are analyzed, while philosophical concepts characterizing ancient Athens, such as self-restraint, self-imposition replaceability, are also being studied. Finally, the causes of the fall of this system in the state of Athens are examined and presented. This work then deals with five characteristic - in our opinion - examples of governance based on direct democracy such as the "gallic" village of Marinaleda, the Spanish collectives, the Zanon ceramic factory in Argentina, the Zapatistas in the Lacandon jungle and Hamilton's school. Each of the above examples is of particular importance as they are a powerful pole of resistance to the current standards of power and governance. In the course of the work, an example of the teaching of direct democracy, which concerns students of the fifth (e) class of elementary school, is presented. Initially, the objectives of teaching are set. This means that we need to define the concepts we want pupils to get to know and conquer. Then the theoretical part of the teaching is mentioned, namely how to structure it and lecture it so that the goals we have set are realized. The practical part, namely the way in which direct democracy is applied to the classroom, is presented last. How we can, based on the Athenian constitution and the examples that have been cited, build a school governance model in which decisions will be taken from the base - that is, the students - and will be transferred to the teacher and the school management.
