Abstract |
In 1992, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) was signed. No emission reduction targets are specified in this Convention. A first step towards the implementation of the UNFCCC was made with the Kyoto Protocol which sets quantitative emission reduction targets for developed countries. The goal of the protocol was to reduce each party's total emissions by at least 5% by 2012 compared to 1990 levels. The Copenhagen Accord, which is seen as a non-binding political pact and allows each party to set its own target for the level of greenhouse gas emissions, followed. Finally, the Paris Agreement, which can be described as "an international agreement concluded between states and governed by international law", was drawn up in 2010. It should be emphasized, however, that its various provisions do not constitute obligations and on the contrary serve as guidelines. The "contributions it intends to achieve" are for each party to decide in accordance with its own domestic law. The analysis of the above international environmental conventions and agreements in the work is followed by the presentation of the most important problems with the current environmental crisis in the context of international relations.
