Abstract |
Teachers may be more concerned about the management and administration of the classroom than any other component of the teaching work they do in schools. The teacher’s skill to successfully manage his class, secures, in a higher degree, the success of the learning process. How well a teacher can comprehend the dynamics of a group will determine how efficiently he or she can manage and arrange the classroom. The purpose of this research was to highlight some modern alternative psycho-pedagogical classroom management methods that may have better and longer lasting results than most traditional methods, which are based on behavioral approaches of classroom management. This research is based on action research. 14 students of the 2nd grade of the elementary school participated. Initially, qualitative research methodological tools (semi-structured interviews, open-ended questionnaires, drawing and journal) was used, aiming to investigate the classroom’s climate. The intervention for more effective classroom management was then implemented and after the two weeks of the intervention the semi-structured interviews, questionnaires and charts were repeated so that the pre-intervention data could be compared with the post-intervention data. The results of the research show that the intervention implemented, based on ecological, self-regulatory, supportive and community approaches, led to immediate and effective classroom management. The adoption of modern alternative psychopedagogical approaches to classroom management is expected to facilitate the smooth conduct of the educational process.
