Abstract |
This work focused on the investigation of whether creative dance helps toddlers to strengthen, improve and release their creative movement by representing shapes and numbers. 40 children from a kindergarten in the prefecture of Heraklion participated in the research. The research was carried out in two groups with a sample of 40 children, a control group and an experimental group. The infants in the experimental group attended an intervention program three times a week for a period of three months, while the control group received no intervention. The data collection tools used in the research were the Thinking Creatively in Action and Movement test (Torrance, 1981) which was given individually to each child to measure their creative thinking and movement abilities, moreover it was designed for the needs of research a test of shapes and numbers to check the children's prior knowledge of them, as well as their possible improvement after the intervention. Both tools were administered to both groups (experimental and control) before and after the implementation of the experimental program. The results of the analyzes showed that after the interventions the experimental group excelled in fluency, originality and imagination in correspondence with the control group that did not receive any intervention. In conclusion, the results of the research showed that creative dance and movement has a positive effect, showing an improvement in the fluency, imagination and originality of movements of infants.
