Abstract |
The Laboratory Skill Activities are an innovative curriculum proposed by the Institute of Education Policy of the Ministry of Education and Religion in our country. The effects of the program were piloted in the 2020-2021 school year, while it was universally implemented the following academic year. The objectives of the activities are to cultivate the soft skills of the students (self-confidence, effective time management skills, communication skills, etc.) according to the requirements of the modern society. The practices applied by teachers as well as the decisions made by the school's leadership, regarding the conduct of laboratory skill activities, are of major importance for theireffectiveness. Based on the above, it was considered essential to identify the mainareas that the teachers consider important for the most effective conduct of that curriculum. The main purpose of this study was to investigate the relation between the school's leadership and teachers of a school unit, and the type and manner of conducting those specific activities that take place within the schedule of a school unit. For the examination of the above, a quantitative survey was held based on a questionnaire which was graded on a five-grade Likert scale, answered by 235 Primary school teachers. The findings showed that the effectiveness of the laboratory skill activities depend on the school climate that exists in the school unit to a large extent , as well as the procedural part, the practices of the teachers and the practices applied in the activities of the laboratory activities have a significant impact on the final result. In addition, the factors that are expected to improve after the first implementation of the skills workshops were investigated, with the results reflecting that further training of teachers is needed as well as their support from those in charge. Finally, an important part in the conduct of laboratory skill activities, as distinguished from the findings of the present research, were the demographic characteristics of teachers, with younger teachers showing that they respond more effectively to this innovative curriculum.
