Abstract Digital technology offers new possibilities in educational practice. Distance learning methods and practices can be implemented in schools in parallel with face to face teaching. Such a practice that in recent years has become popular, mainly in universities but also in secondary schools, is known as: flipped classroom or inverted instruction. This method gets its name from the inversion of the usual operation of a class. The direct instruction, in the form of lectures, is transferred from the public space of the classroom to the student’s private space, with videos offered through internet. Thus the extra time gained in the classroom can be dedicated to student-centered activities. Advocates of this practice argue that active learning is promoted. The aim of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of the method of fllipped classroom in conceptual understanding of the Newton’s Laws of motion by conducting a quantitive research on students of the first grade of the greek General Lyceum.
