Abstract

This study describes the philosophy, the characteristics, the methodology, the design and the evaluation of a web learning environment for Teachers’ Training called “ ‘MySchool’: An Interactive Tutorial for Leave and Absence Management System”. This tutorial is based on the principles of adult education in accordance with the methodology of distance education and intends to help teachers’ training in the Ministry of Education of Greece Online Management Information System (MIS) in school administration called “MySchool”. The training is aimed to teachers of all disciplines (primary and secondary education) and the content of the present educational material was formed according to the Tutorial Guide given by the Ministry of Education of Greece. The main field of its application is the training on the section of Leave and Absence and it is available through the website http://koita.me/vicky/w. The evaluation of this web learning environment aims to investigate how the distance education in teachers’ training contribute to a more efficient management of the MIS “MySchool”. In this direction, there is a presentation of the results of a qualitative research, with regard to the teachers’ attitudes toward the Web Learning environment and their suggestions for the design, organization and implementation of similar distance education projects in the future. The study revealed teachers’ satisfaction of the tutorial usefulness and ease of use, the online methods flexibility and the program’s content. Participants’ attitudes were positive towards the implementation of such a training model for the entire MIS “MySchool”.
