Abstract The specific research project concerns the design, implementation and evaluation of interactive educational material, in the form of a structured, autonomous, online course, in the context of school supplementary distance education, for the implementation of an interdisciplinary project allotted to 1st grade Lyceum students in the subject of History, with the aim of preparing an educational visit to the archaeological site of Gortyna and the newly established archaeological museum of Mesaras. The development of all the individual elements that lead to the final configuration of the deliverable content was carried out entirely from scratch, as a result of a meticulous search of bibliographic sources, and evaluation of findings of additional qualitative research, in an attempt to further confirm the bibliographic review that had preceded it. In addition, this educational project is governed by the design principles of the Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning, the pedagogical framework of distance education and the general directions of the Interdisciplinary Unified Curriculum Framework, as well as the detailed compulsory education curriculum of History. For its implementation, the use of a wide range of interactive, digital, educational software and ICT tools was carried out, in an LMS electronic learning environment, with the material incorporating elements such as detailed study instructions, specific teaching objectives and clearly defined, expected learning outcomes. Its formative evaluation entailed deliberate sampling by teachers with expertise in the relevant methodology and pedagogy, the use of a questionnaire with open-ended questions and finally, the utilization of qualitative content analysis to process the extracted data. The teachers’ report was underpinned by extensive research. Regarding the results of this evaluation, the experts seemed to infer that the produced online material is easy to use, attractive and most importantly, it meets the requirements of the design principles, in all individual dimensions.
