Abstract |
The purpose of this research project was the design, implementation and evaluation of educational material, using the distance learning method for the teaching of local history to sixth grade students. In particular, the learning material was created for the Acropolis of Athens. Following the Principles of designing educational material, formulated by the theorists of the field of distance learning, an educational material, that presents the history of the Acropolis in a polymorphic way, utilizing ICT (Information and Communications Technology) pedagogically, was created and designed, by using the digital tool h5p and the Chamilo platform. In addition, a space-sensitive augmented reality game was created for students to self-evaluate the history of the Acropolis archaeological site in an experiential way, utilizing mobile devices. Both the educational material and the augmented reality game are a new synthesis and result of the research of this thesis. To evaluate the educational material, qualitative research was conducted for both the main educational material and the space-sensitive augmented reality game. Specifically, the main educational material was evaluated by 13 students who participated in the survey and the 3 experts of distance learning, while the space-sensitive augmented reality game was evaluated only by the students. The evaluation was conducted using questionnaires with open-ended questions, which were processed with Atlas.ti software through qualitative content analysis. The results of the research showed that the educational material as a whole follows the design principles of the Distance Learning method, meaning that it was interactive, easy to use, pleasant, with simple and understandable presentation of the subject matter and various types of interactive activities with feedback. Finally, the space-sensitive augmented reality game was easy and useful as a learning tool.
