Abstract |
The purpose of this current research was the design, implementation and evaluation of a complete intervention of school distant education, through the use of interactive educational material, for teaching of the module «The human immune system», a module that is not included in any specific subject of primary school. The educational material that was created, was the result of composing information found in various sources. For its implementation, educational material design principles for school distant education were applied, that were formulated experts of the field. In addition, for this educational material implementation tools such as H5P, Doodly and Book Creator were also utilized. The material was then incorporated in an LMS platform, «Chamilo», where it was completed. For its evaluation, four experts of school distant education, filled out open – ended questionnaires whose results were through qualitative analysis of data. Research results suggest that the Educational Material is consistent with the principles and methodology of School and Distant Education. In particular, there exists scientific coherence and validation of the information. Presentation of the subject is performed in a coherent and uncomplicated manner. The Educational Material is easy to use, while the user is guided when necessary. Activities are utilized for assessing user understanding. Furthermore, the Educational Material provides tools for self-evaluation of the student. However, the possibility of self-reflective thinking is quite limited. The purpose and expected educational results are presented with clarity. In addition, the principles of Cognity Theory of Multimedia Learning are applied within the Educational Material. In regards to the strong points of the Educational Material and some proposed changes for improvement, the most frequent references where a friendlier style and a need for greater interaction between students themselves.
