Abstract |
This thesis attempts to explore the issue of linguistic preservation of the Albanian language in the context of Community Schools. The subject of our research was the Albanian community schools of Heraklion, which have been organized by the Association of Albanian immigrants. This is a qualitative case study research in order to explore issues related to the target setting, the structure, the way they operate, as well as the teaching and linguistic practices followed by teachers for the development and preservation of the ethnic language, but also for the formation of an ethnocultural identity. The participants of our research were the head of the community schools and the 5 teachers who taught Albanian language courses in 2021-2022. For the collection of the data, 6 semi-structured interviews and participatory semi-structured observation of the teaching courses were conducted. The analysis of the data was made on the basis of the content analysis, according to the thematic sections defined. The findings that emerged from the interviews and the observation were presented and discussed in combination. The results of the survey showed that the targeting of Community Schools and teachers ' teaching courses aimed primarily at the development and preservation of the ethnic language and secondarily at the formation of the Albanian identity of the students. Regarding the teaching and language practices and approaches according to which teachers chose to manage the bilingualism of their students, the results of the research showed the existence of both "monoglossic" and "heteroglossic" approaches and practices.
