Abstract This paper focuses on the role of museum educational programs in strengthening, supplementing and supporting the objectives of the teacher training program. According to this, the structure of the Educational Program "Museum Education on Map" of the Museum of History of Education of the University of Crete is being studied in terms of the teacher education framework, in order to establish whether the museum provides methods and practices that can support the curriculum of the Pedagogical Department of Primary Education of the University of Crete. Initially, a theoretical approach is sought around to the profession of a teacher, his role and his system of education. The modern Museum Education is being approached within the role of educational programs and the perceptions and attitudes of teachers on these spaces. Then, we focus on museum training of teachers, referring to international examples, as well as on Greek educational sites. At the end of the first part of this paper, a review of the research on museums (university and non-museum) partnerships with the universities of countries at international and Greek level is presented, and examples are given of the benefits that arise from these collaborations. In the second part of this paper we present the obtained data from the study of the written texts and material of the museum educational program and from the interviews with the educational participants and trainers. Their role, the processes, the stages and the methods used by themselves emerge and led them to the final result, highlighting the need for their museum education from the stage of their training. The third and final part of this work it is included with the conclusions of the research, the commentary of these conclusions and the corresponding proposals for museum education proposed by the interviewees themselves. Thus, we can see whether universities can, through museum education programs, support their curriculum, by introducing future teachers into alternative teaching environments, cultivating the necessary skills and acquiring the elements necessary for the constitution of their professional identity.
