Author Μαραγκουδάκης Νίκος
Abstract The following thesis deals with the comic books. The first part includes a theoretical approach to the Ninth Art. To start with, we tried to define comic books and recognize their special characteristics. We followed their evolution from the ancient history to the modern age and the progress of comic books in Greece. Then, we came up against the accusations against the ninth art by some researchers and scientists. But most important is the connection between literature and comic books and their benefits to the education and children. In the second part of the thesis, a quantitative research took place via questionnaire. Participants of the research’s sample were children and teachers of two primary schools in Chania and Rethymno. Our main goal was to let the sample express its opinion about the ninth art, identify the features that enhance children’s interest and push the teachers into using comic books in education, as they seem to be helpful for children is many ways. The last part includes a pedagogic implementation of three chosen comic books. «Asterix», «Maus» and «Erotokritos» are our “ideal” comic books, trying to give ideas how to use them in the classroom. Our basic priority in order to choose these works was to ensure that they are pedagogically appropriate. Add to this, we focused on historicality and timeliness of the chosen comic books. Teachers play a determinant role in the choice of the right comic books and the best way to use them in the classroom. Key – words: comic books, ninth art, literature, pedagogic implementation, pedagogically appropriate, historicality, timeliness
