Abstract |
The current thesis studies the possibilities and utilization of supplementary distance learning in Secondary Education. Specifically concerns the design, development and evaluation of interactive educational material, called Chamilo Lab, based on the distance learning education method of the Homeric epics in production, classes at 1st & 2nd year of High School. The purpose of this educational material is to further enhance the “live” teaching, where the teacher guides students to use this as a distance learning material using the computer from their house, in order to understand and independently seek new knowledge for the consolidation of this particular subject. Teaching modules are structured in the following steps (mandatory and optional): 1. Setting objectives, 2. Thinking, 3. Study, 4. Searching, 5. Practice, 6. Self-Assessment, 7. Play. In particular the 6th step “Self-Assessment” consists of 6 individual steps that enable the students to gain control of their progress and improve their performance in the following ways: 1) Setting the study’s timeline, 2) Setting new objectives, 3) Keeping notes, 4) Evaluating their performance, 5) Gradually classifying the objectives, 6) Extracting the organization chart, in order to assess the progress. The aim of the educational material is the students active involvement, self-improvement and skill development. The sample of the survey consisted of 32 graduates of philology, who undertook to assess the educational material checking it and completing two questionnaires, Ingressum (Input) and Exitum with open and closed type questions. According to the research results, Chamilo Lab training material can improve learning experiences and attract students' interest while enabling them to self-reflect, self-evaluate their progress and self-regulate their study.
