Abstract

During early 21st century, the European union has been facing a rapid technological growth, a worldwide economic crisis and the need of immigrant and refugee groups to integrate in the society, more than ever. The increased educational needs of immigrant and refugee adults can be covered through e-learning and their mobile devices. In this context, this research’s main objective is to investigate literature data of case studies that concern the utilization of distant learning in migrant and refugee adult’s education in the European union and to draw conclusions about attitudes, obstacles and ways of organizing and designing the teaching process. For the research was used the “snowballing” technic, during which the reference list and citations of each study were examined, in order to extract a representative reference sample. The literature review showed, the facilitating role of distant learning referring to accessibility, despite the obstacles that occur. Additionally, there is the need of organizing mixed programs, that should respect the cultural diversity and the particular characteristics and educational needs of the target group.
