Abstract The purpose of this research was the design, implementation and evaluation of an interactive educational material with the aim of training Secondary Education teachers in relation to distance education in the field of Special Education, and more specifically, in Autism. More specifically, the interactive material, which was implemented, consists of three teaching units, each of which consists of subsections. More specifically, the first teaching unit concerns the conceptual definition of the term "Autism" and its forms. Subsequently, the second teaching unit is related to the epidemiological features and causes of Autism and finally, the third and the last section, refers to the diagnostic criteria and practices for the treatment of Autism. The content developed was based on the principles of educational material design, as proposed by various theorists in the field, among them the Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning. Of course, research has been done before, so that the creation of this material can be occured. In particular, the interactive material was created with the help of h5p software in a CMS environment, which was then integrated into an LMS environment. In order to be able to carry out a formative evaluation of the material, a qualitative research was carried out, with deliberate sampling, which included experts in ICT and distance learning issues. The questionnaire, which was asked to answer by the evaluators, was about open-ended questions and thus the qualitative analysis of the data was used to process this data. The export of the results resulted in this educational material, which is distinguished for its usability, interactivity, simple and understandable presentation, but also for its pleasant navigation. In conclusion, through the evaluation and presentation of the results of this research, the conclusions and suggestions for future improvements emerged, which may arise in other research works.
