Abstract Plato's Republic is a work written during a period in which the sophists kept questioning the traditional values, taking advantage of the chances that Athens offered them. Plato in general tried to defend those values questioned by the sophists, who thought that everything is relative. In the Republic, Socrates considers the value of justice. In the framework of that consideration, the philosopher criticizes -mostly- Homer due to his depiction of the Gods. He viewed that depiction as nothing else but fake. His goal is to redefine the Gods according to what he thinks is true about them, in order to use the true myths regarding the Gods and the heroes and place them in his educational program. Forms are supernatural beings too and they constitute the absolute examples that the philosopher must know. The mightiest of those Forms is the Form of the Good. Gods, Forms and humans co-exist, although not in the same world. The aim of the people, or at least of those who study philosophy, is to "see" the Forms. The education of the citizens of Socrates' city is adapted in such a way as to serve that purpose.
