Abstract |
The present study investigates the following assumptions. The first assumption has to do with, whether demographic characteristics influence teachers’ burnout and stress levels. Secondly, whether stress predicts burn out, as well as whether seeking help from colleagues mediates stress and burnout relation. Furthermore, the present study investigates whether teachers’ capability of managing a difficult situation in the classroom, mediates the correlation between stress and burn out. Moreover the study investigates whether the relation between stress and burn out is moderated by teacher resilience and the school type (general or special education). In addition, this study focuses on differences between general and special education teachers concerning levels of stress and burn out. The sample of this study consisted of 414 teachers, aged 23 to 63 years. Data were collected through self-report questionnaires on stress, burn out, and teacher resilience. The indirect (mediating) effect as well as the moderating effect was studied through the PROCESS program. The results showed differences between stress and burnout, comparing special and general education teachers. In addition, data have shown that stress predicts burnout. Moreover, results revealed indirect mediation effect for both peer support and the ability to manage difficulties on the relation between stress and burnout. Furthermore, the results showed the positive moderating effect of teacher resilience on the above relation. Finally, it became clear that the type of education,(special education and general education), where the teachers work at, does not affect the correlation between stress and burnout.
