Abstract This dissertation thesis examines the perspective of the pharmaceutical cognitive enhancement and varying neuroethical dilemmas arising in connection with its implementation. In the first part, after a brief historical overview, the biological basis of cognition, all possible categories of cognitive enhancement and the physiology of the nervous system are presented. Special attention is given to the presentation of the pharmaceutical cognitive enhancement and its multifactorial explanation is also being referred. The neurobiology of the moral virtues and the philosophy of cognition are the smooth link for the transition to the presentation and analysis of neuroethical challenges. In the second part, therefore, topics with intense moral background are being discussed, such as autonomy and freedom, justice, the extended mind hypothesis, personal rights and political freedoms. The above mentioned neuroethical approach is being complemented by other interesting topics such as moral uncertainty, competition, direct and indirect coercion, security and ethical (moral) values. Finally, the critical issues of free will, cognitive evolution, individual identity and authenticity and the argument of human nature are all being examined. The second part of the thesis ends up with the brief presentation of the medical field and the legal and socio-cultural context of decision-making and conclusions outcome process. The dissertation is being completed with the presentation of the conclusion and the proposal of specific implementation policies. In summary, the construction of a flexible and multidimensional institutional framework, encompassing a multitude of individual and social components, is essential. A framework (context) comprised of legal, philosophical, economic, social, medical and neurobiological features, respecting the basic ethical principles. Those of autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence and justice.
