Abstract Introduction - Purpose: The Balint method was devised by a general practitioner and psychoanalyst Michael Balint in order to support doctors the negative experiences experienced by patients resulting in chronic discomfort, depressive feelings and occupational burnout manifested by the stressful stimuli they received from patients, creating a vicious cycle with negative consequences for both. The main purpose of the method was to better understand and treat patients. In Greece it was first applied to public servants who do not work in the field of health. The purpose of this study was therefore to investigate the degree of satisfaction of the employees of the Regional Unit of Rethymno with the approach of the Balint method, as well as to examine the applicability of this method in practice. Method: The sample was all employees in the Regional Unit of Rethymno. Following an invitation to participate, there were forty-three (N=43). At the end of the twelve sessions using the Balint method, the employees were asked to complete a questionnaire, constructed empirically by the research team, with a theoretical background in the Theory of Planned Behavior. Results: The average age of employees was 50.8 years. Civil servants were satisfied with the Balint method (43.2% and an average rating on the Likert 4.04 scale) and would like to participate again in Balint Group in the future. (43.2%). Factors facilitating participation in Balint Group are the positive attitude of the Director (64.9%) On the contrary, factors that make it difficult to participate are workload (32.4%). Finally, a positive correlation between employee satisfaction with Subjective Perception and Behavioral Beliefs and a negative association of the women with Compliance Incentives was found. Conclusions: The Balint method seems to have worked positively in professionals as shown by their high satisfaction. It would be interesting to re-apply this method to public services and to investigate further, with additional research, whether this method actually works support to public servants not in the health sector.
