Abstract |
In this thesis, educational material for teaching decimals in Mathematics was designed, created and evaluated for instruction in class by implementing the Flipped Classroom method. The material is addressed to students of the 3rd grade of primary school who are being taught the specific subject for the first time. The creation of the educational material was based on the methodology of distance education, utilizing principles and models designed by experts in the field such as the West-Lionarakis model and Mayer's Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning. For the evaluation of the educational material, qualitative data was collected from 3 teachers with an expertise on distance education while, correspondingly, for the evaluation of the effectiveness of its application, quantitative data was collected from 39 students of the 3rd grade who attend two different classes. The collection of the qualitative data was carried out through a questionnaire with open-ended questions, while the collection of the quantitative data was carried out through a written test before and after the intervention (pre-test, post-test) with the participation of the two classes, experimentation and control. Regarding the evaluation of the educational material, this research showed that it is regulated by the principles and methodology of Distance Learning and that it implements the principles of Mayer's multimedia learning, however there were suggestions to improve it in specific points. In addition, it was ensued at the second part of the research that the teaching of decimal numbers with the use of the educational material in the context of the application of the Flipped Classroom, contributed positively to the entire learning process.
