Abstract This dissertation is a qualitative research on the relations among the primary schools teachers and the parents of their students. It is expected that, since school and family are the most important socialisation agents of young people, they share common goals, they are compatible;it is morever expected that school and family would be in a continuous cooperation and mutual feedback. Research data in the field of the Socialisation of Education have shown conflicts between them with reference to the intrapersonal teachers - parents relations. This research is focused on the exploration of the factors which influence communication and cooperation between parents antd teachers, the description of the forms it takes, on the circumastances under which it takes place and on the parents - teachers representations vis a vis the communication and cooperation perspectives between them. Some of the main research results are the following: Firstly, the frequence of communicatrion and the quality of cooperation depends mainly upon: a) parents educational level. This adds another dimension to the educational inequality. b) pupils performance at school. It was shown that the lack of communication and cooperation becomes a great problem especially when pupils face learning difficulties while family support of teacher work is crucial; yet that the parents of these pupils do not usually communicate with school. c) pupils grade. Communication and cooperation is more intensive when the student are in the lower grades than the upper grades. Secondly, communication usually takes place at schools, during lesson breaks, or at the begginning and the end of lessons, in a circumstancial way. The only systematic contacts between teachers and parents take place at the end of the semesters when parents are asked to see the teachers of their children. Third, generally, parents involvement at school is limited to the absolutely necessary minimum and the responsibility belongs to both parts. Parents, though, seem to be opener to a perspective of increasing their involvement in the educational process. On the contrary, many teachers consider the latter as impossible.
