Abstract |
The purpose of the present study, is to investigate the intercultural awareness of preschoolers through their orientation and exposure to other cultures, as well as the use of ICT in intercultural education and particularly, whether the use of the application “Facebook Messenger” can help preschoolers acknowledge other cultures in order to cultivate their intercultural competence. It is a quasi-experimental designs, which was conducted in two classrooms of an urban kindergarten in Heraklion, Crete and included 30 children in total. The students of the first class formed the control group and the students of the latter former the experimental one. To conclude this research, we tried to answer our research questions using educational intervention and a questionnaire. In the experimental group, educational intervention along with the use of ICT was used where in the control group there was no use of ICT. From analyzing the outcomes, which occurred by using the statistical program SPSS 21, we concluded that informing the children about other cultures helped the cultivation of their intercultural sensitivity. Furthermore, it was obvious that the use of ICT, “Facebook Messenger” in particular, had a positive impact for the specific cause by keeping the students’ interest in high levels and exciting their curiosity, as well.
