Abstract Over the years in a variety of studies, board games have been shown to be an effective way of learning for both neurotypical children and children with special needs. Furthermore, recently, the importance of the role of grandparents as a means of support in the upbringing and development of their grandchildren has begun to emerge. But what happens when these two factors combine regarding to the development of a child in the autism spectrum disorder? The present study attempts to improve the cognitive and social skills of a child on the autism spectrum, which primarily concerns the early numeracy skills, but also how the child develops the way it approaches the game and those around it through development of the grandparent-grandchild dual relationship. This interaction is achieved through an intervention structured around board games and tries to highlight both their effectiveness as a means of learning, but also the importance of a role, such as that of a grandmother, as a means of supporting and contributing to the development of her grandson with ASD. Among the used tools were: the informal math achievement test, the semi-structured interview and observational tools. In addition, after a period of approximately four weeks, a re-evaluation (follow-up) was conducted with other familiar people of the environment of the child. All tools used in this case study showed positive results after the intervention. Those results remained during the re-evaluation, showing an improvement, primarily, in the numeracy skills of the child and secondarily, in its social skills.
