Abstract The purpose of this research was to investigate the relationship that exists between the mental resilience of children belonging to the age group of 11 and 12 years and the functionality of their family as well as to evaluate the relationship that exists between the mental health of the participants both with the family functioning as well as mental resilience. 114 students participated in the research, of which 59 are in the 5th grade of the primary school, while the remaining 59 are in the 6th grade. Participants completed the Family Adaptability Cohesion Evaluation Scale - FACESIII by Olson andTiesel (1991), the Resilience Scale-RS by Wagnildand Young (1993) and the Emotional and Mental Scale Stirling Children's Well-being Scale by Liddleand Carter (2015) as well as a set of questions related to their personal demographic characteristics. The results showed that the high functionality of the family is positively related to the children's mental resilience and also to their high mental health. In fact, mental resilience and mental health show a significant and strong correlation between them. The findings of the study underline the importance of strengthening family functioning as a factor promoting children's mental resilience and health.
