Abstract |
The current study presents the design, implementation and evaluation of educational
material using the methodology of distance education to teach local history in Elementary
Education. More specifically, the material presents Knossos and is addressed to 3rd grade
students of Primary school. The objective of the educational material is twofold, on the
one hand to present the history of Knossos in various ways utilizing ICT pedagogically
and on the other hand, using location-based interactive applications of augmented reality
in the field so that students learn history experientially with mobile devices. Ιn order to
evaluate the educational material, qualitative research was conducted with a sample of 5
students studying in the 3rd grade of Primary school, 5 teachers and a critical friend (who
was a teacher too) analyzing their opinion regarding the educational material and the
augmented reality game that was created. Τhe evaluation was based on questionnaires with
open questions that were processed using the software Atlas-ti. The results of the research
showed that the educational material is scientifically documented, contributes to the
simple and understandable presentation of the subject, is user-friendly and supports the
learner in his study. In addition, the educational material supports interaction with the
learner in his study, provides self-assessment, includes the purpose and the expected
results and has been created following the principles of multimedia learning. Finally, the
research indicated that the location-based,augmented reality game is easy and useful as a
tool to learn local history.
