Abstract Introduction. Although Nursing Science aims to ensure that the health of the patient is safe, nursing mistakes are often inevitable. It is mostly the result of work factors and can make it difficult to repress the patient's health. In Greece, there is no system for recording nursing mistakes and mistakes are either recorded arbitrarily / at will or are not mentioned at all. Aim: To evaluate the causal factors of the inducement of medication errors, the reasons for not reporting them by the nurses and the suggestions for ways to prevent and reduce errors. Material and method: This is a quantitative survey with cross sectional observational study carried out at the Venizelos Hospital of Heraklion, and 72 nurses from this department participated voluntarily. This study looked at the factors that may lead to errors on the part of nurses. Particular emphasis was put on the occurrence of errors during medication administration. The parameters that were the focus of the survey are demographics, working conditions, error management and personal assessments of respondents themselves. The research tool used is the Mitsis & Co. Then, statistical data analysis through SPSS was followed. Finally, it is worth noting that the bioethics committee has been approved to carry out our research. Results. Based on the results of our survey, it was found that secondary school nurses may have errors in their work at 34.8% compared to those of higher / upper secondary education. The reporting of mistakes occurs more to colleagues (38%) and then to heads of departments (29%). However, in the case of error handling, constructive and more appropriate management is sought by nursing supervisors. Nurses are confronted with feelings of guilt, blame, direct apology, and indifference upon error. Consequence of this situation is judged by the respondents the working conditions. Circular time, workload, incomplete hierarchical structure, and the psychological friction of nurses with the family & social environment of the patients lead to the professional exhaustion of the subjects of our study. Consequently, the system may fail to contradict the principles governing Nursing Science. Conclusions. Despite the small sample of our research, this study highlights the issue of the existence of nursing mistakes in a public hospital, as well as the non-existent system for recording and correcting errors. It is logical to make mistakes in the work but it is important not to repeat them. In order not to overcome errors, it is proposed to systematically record medical errors as well as a protocol of procedures.
