Abstract In the context of the present work, interactive educational material was designed, implemented and evaluated in the thematic field of local history and specifically mentions and presents the case of the founding of the city of Rhodes from antiquity to modern times. The material is aimed at adult students of the school of architecture, who attend courses in the history and theory of architecture. Therefore, both the material presented and the methodology followed in the formation of the interactive material move within the contexts and rules concerning the cognitive capabilities of adult learners. The collection of the content and historical data was carried out after a search in official archives on the history of Rhodes, while for the implementation of the educational material the methodology of distance education was used, as well as theories, principles and models of educational material design that have been proposed by theorists in the field, including the West-Lionaraki model, Mayer's Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning and Laurillard's conversational model. The training material was created with the help of H5P software and integrated into an LMS environment, specifically the Chamilo platform. For the evaluation of the educational material, a thorough, analytical study and qualitative research was conducted with a sample of three (3) experts in e-learning as critical readers and 17 architecture students, as experts of the Knowledge Object. The means of data collection were questionnaires with open-ended questions, one for each group of participants. From the results of the research, it emerged that the material as a whole meets the prerequisites for ease of use and documentation as well as that it is pleasant, interactive, provides feedback and self-evaluation possibilities and adheres to the principles and theories of e-learning education. Based on these results, it follows that the whole project meets the need for which it was created, offering an additional boost to the research field of distance education for adults in the subject of history and preservation of cultural heritage at the local level.
